The mission of the Central Park Conservancy is to turn many of the cozy areas populated with trees into open lawns to attract more visitors. More visitors mean more commercial value for park concessions and advertising campaigns disguised as events for noble causes.

This area of Central Park for example (north side of the 79th & Fifth Avenue entrance--Miner's Gate??) has, for many years been thick with shady trees. This was an eyesore in the minds of the Central Park Conservancy. It obstructed views for park visitors looking towards Fifth Avenue and produced unimpressive images for people gazing into the park from the buildings along the east side of Fifth Avenue.
