Last of three baby hawks on Houston Street safe in a tall tree on the south side of the street.|
Needless to say that after a wonderful day with a great fledging the baby hawk, the last of three, ended up in the hands of the police once again.
I am unwilling to go through the unsavory details, but rather focus my thoughts on one person which relighted my faith in humans--it is this man highlighted above. His name is Edwin, fondly called 'Blimpie' by all his friends and neighbors. Edwin saved the life of this last little baby hawk late this afternoon by practically throwing himself into the busy westbound Houston Street traffic and shielding the exhaused baby which, even if was a good flier, was unable to hold onto a narrow edge of concrete on PS 188 (seen above).
All images protographed on Friday June 13, 2008 on Houston Street, LES Manhattan.
