CP Precinct Letter July 27, 2012

email: pressoffice@parks.nyc.gov

Dear Sir/Madam:

The Central Park Precinct is using an extremely deadly rat poison which has lethal secondary effects on non-target animals in Central Park. The poison being used at the precinct is 'Final All Weather Blox' manufactured by Bell Labs. This poison contains the active ingredient Brodifacoum which was responsible for the death of a red tail hawk in Central Park last February. Central Park Precinct was informed of this but did not remove the poison and it still being used. The only response from the Precinct after being informed of the tragedy was the removal of the Warning Signs which are required by law when poison is being used.

Please remove the deadly poison from the Precinct and find alternative methods of controlling any pest situation you may be having. Rats proliferate only when food is made available to them. If you have a rodent problem it is certain that you are not managing your food/garbage properly. Your precinct is located in a very delicate and natural environment as you must take this into consideration whilst operating here.
