Sunday Aug 28th, 2005: Maggie was up and about chasing pigeons today. On my way into the park I saw one of them jumping about in the playground, and by the time I got to the ballfield side I saw Maggie. I'm not sure if the first one was Charlie of whether Maggie was the one I saw playing earlier.

Pale Male & Lola Update

Pale Male Jr. Update

Saturday Aug 27th, 2005: No sign of Charlie or Maggie around the playground, ballfield or Carousel. Around 6:30 PM I saw Pale Male on the NE tower of The Beresford where he stayed for at least an hour. At 7:30 PM after he had left the tower perch for several minutes I watched him from the castle as he swooped down onto the ground inside The Great Lawn and grabbed something. He then perched on one of the eastside baseball backstops and attracted some attention from the still crowded field. By the time I made it down to the spot, he was gone. According to one observer he flew into a nearby tree and I assume spent the night there.

The Ramble was quite peaceful today. This baby cardinal sat and watched me for a while - Saturday August 27, 05

Notice I only know the names of the very common birds. Due to mostly laziness I do not even own a field guide. I am just as impressed with a sparrow as I am with one of the lesser seen birds in the Ramble like this one - Saturday August 27, 05

When you take the time to observe the individuals you get to see the person inside them - Saturday August 27, 05

A common practice of the grackles is bringing their dry bread to the pond and soaking it to make it digestable - Saturday August 27, 05

These birds are so hated in NYC. They are kicked at, chased, poisoned, and even electrocuted. They have no one to complain to. What they do have inside them is a peacefulness that we can only dream of having - Saturday August 27, 05

Pale Male & Lola Update

Pale Male Jr. Update

Spent a long time at the south end playground without a peep from the two little stinkers. I decided to try my luck with Grandpa & Stepgrandma.

If you look carefully you may see the footprints that Pale Male left behind on the chrome ball on top of the flagpole. He took off just a minute or two before I was able to get to him. I missed the shot, but I stood breathless and watched the empty flagpole after running all the way from the parking lot of The Boathouse Restaurant to Turtle Pond. I was told Pale Male was perched there for some time so I hurried over hoping that he'll still be there for me. I imagined him holding onto the silver ball at the top of the pole with the wind blowing his feathers and him watching Lola on The Beresford and then turning to look at their nest on 5th Avenue.
I am told that this is a new favorite spot of his so I'll try to catch him another day. For now please enjoy this image, but soon I hope to show you a great symbol of freedom.

When he left the flagpole he spent some time in the trees just east of Belvedere Castle and then flew over to this tree - Thursday August 25, 05

Pale Male about to take off because Lola just flew behind him (most likely coming from The Beresford)- Thursday August 25, 05

That's Pale Male slightly above the center of the image (he's very tiny) - Thursday August 25, 05
